Mt Hood Orienteering
HOLIDAY LIGHTS SCORE-O RESULTS
Competitive (32 Participants, 18 Starts)
We had a great turnout for our first event as Mt Hood Orienteering. We had hoped to get at least 20 registrations, and we got 42. We even had four people do the course a second time. It was great to see everyone who showed up for the social evening. Our thanks to everyone who helped set up and take down the event center that evening.

Overall, we found that the MapRun results were faster to administer than the Q&A results because they automatically publish points and times. Participants who have used both systems tend to prefer MapRun for its speed and ease of use. We plan to continue using MapRun for our urban events in addition to Q&A sheets, which are useful for anyone unable to use MapRun on a phone or GPS watch.

Event Description
This event features a score-orienteering course for all skill levels from beginning to advanced using a new map of the South Beaverton Conestoga community. You can expect moderate hills, changing street patterns with each neighborhood, and lots of passages connecting the neighborhoods.
Each control site shown on your map is a home decorated for the holidays and the score value for that site is determined by the tens digit of the control number (i.e.,control #38 is worth 30 points). The higher value control sites are either further from the starts or they have very special holiday decorations for you to enjoy.

Unlike other score-O events, this event does not have a time limit. However, for the best viewing, we recommend starting after 5:00 PM and finishing before 10:00 PM. Be sure to wear reflective clothing so that you are easily seen by car drivers.

To be listed in the competitive results you have a choice of using the MapRun phone app or a Q&A sheet with a managed start/finish on December 19 when the MtHO founders will be in attendance. If you prefer to be non competitive, you can use just the map or you can use the MapRun phone app (it is fun to use).
If you plan to attend on December 19, please indicate this on your registration so that we can be sure to have enough printed maps and treats available for everyone.
Register for the Event
We use the Orienteering USA (OUSA) “Event Register” registration system to manage our events.

Safety
This is an urban venue with car traffic. We strongly recommend that you wear reflective clothing and take care whenever you cross streets and driveways--car drivers do not know that you are there unless you show yourself. We also recommend that minors be accompanied by their parents or other responsible adults. Teams are typically safer than individuals (and they can be more fun when looking at holiday displays).
