Newly expanded 2.3 square-km map used for three distinct courses:

Scape Goat: ~3 km beginner/novice course

Hill Billy Goat: ~5-6 km intermediate course

Mountain Goat: ~9-10 km advanced course

Mass start for all courses at 9 AM. You may start anytime after the mass start, but you must finish by the closing time (3 PM). If the start is delayed, the finish time will be delayed by the same amount of time.

You may omit one control of your choice on your course.

Following is allowed…if you can keep up with the goat ahead of you.

Electronic punching used for timing (regular and SI-Air modes). Rental SI cards (e-punch sticks) available.

Compasses and whistles are available to borrow.

Kidd-O course (free) at the event center for children.

Beginner instruction (free) at the event center for first-time orienteers (or if you need a refresher).

Event social after you do your course.

NEW: Lifetime goat scores—each year that you do this event, your score is included in the MTHD list of lifetime goat scores. The easiest way to lead this list is to attend every annual goat event regardless of your score.
Event Description
The 2026 Mt Hood Orienteering Goat Stampede is a long-distance, point-to-point orienteering event at L. L. Stub Stewart State Park with the following three independent courses:

Scape Goat: A beginner/novice course about 3 km long and mostly on trails with controls within sight of the trails

Hill Billy Goat: An intermediate course about 5-6 km long with short off-trail routes and controls not easily seen from trails.

Mountain Goat: An advanced course about 9-10 km long without any trail requirements. Expect anything but we will try to keep it in runnable areas.

​Other distinctions from the standard point-to-point event:

Register for the Event
Please note: the earlier people register, the easier it is for us to plan for the event. To encourage earlier registration we are adding an extra $5 fee to any registrations that occur less than seven days before the event.
Save $5 and register for this event by 11 pm on Sunday Sep 27, 2026. Registration closes at 11 PM on Friday, Oct 2, 2026. The prices on the fee schedule reflect early/late registration.
We use the Orienteering USA (OUSA) Event Register system to manage our events.

An OUSA account is not required. If you don't have an OUSA membership, select the Enter Data Manually option.

Your registration is not complete until you sign your waiver and pay your fees (adults must sign for minors).

Parents/Guardians, please register your minor children separately and sign the waver for them.​

​As the complexity and length of the course increases, the fees increase accordingly.

Each participant must be registered individually, even if they are part of a team.​​

If you are part of a team, enter the team name/ID on the registration form so that we can group you with your team for the starts and results.

After registration has closed, we will send an email out with the final instructions for the event.​​​​​
